We
are very privileged to have a pipe organ of great quality—a
3 manual instrument made and installed in 1966 by Casavant Freres
of St.Hyacinthe, Quebec. It has been featured frequently on the
CBC and has served as a recital instrument to accompany choirs,
orchestras, and soloists.
It is used in
worship primarily to support the congregational singing of hymns,
accompanies the 11:00 a.m. Choir, and provides music for weddings,
funerals, and other ceremonies. The organ served as a recital instrument
most notably for the Whitby Summer Institute of Church Music and
has accompanied other choirs such as the Durham Philharmonic Choir
and other visiting orchestras.
The organ is
played by our choirmaster, Stephen Powell.
