Our
professional is Stephen Powell, organist and choirmaster extraordinaire!
The
Choir that sings at the 11:00 a.m. traditional service is a congenial
group of about 30 singers ranging in age from 17 to 75+. We rehearse
on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m.to 9:30 p.m. Our repertoire focuses
on the traditional Anglican from the sixteenth century (Byrd, Gibbons,
Tallis) through Purcell, Greene, Wesley, up to the twentieth century
- Stanford, Harris, Britten and the rest. We also sing a great deal
of Canadian music, especially the unaccompanied works of Willan,
Wm France, W.H. Anderson, etc. Our style of psalmody is mainly Anglican
chant and occasionally plainsong, and our congregational hymns come
from the new Anglican hymnbook, Common Praise.
If you are interested
in joining the Choir or participating by playing a musical instrument,
please contact the church office at 905-723-7875.
“Choir
Tour”, England, 2007
During
the tour, the Choir was the “visiting choir” at Salisbury
Cathedral. They also sang at St. Georges Chapel, Windsor, Wells
Cathedral, and All Saints, Rington, Somerset.
We hope we can
entice our traveling choristers to send us news of their travels
for publication on the website. Please contact the church office
if you are interested in posting a story.
